GES side cast fishing reels were made by Brisbane Tinsmith George Snowden who, in addition to a Ferguson-style; pivot press lever turntable, also produced a range of models featuring a hook plunger turntable action, and line guide casting configuration. Three models were produced during the 1950s, with different style line guide turntable mechanisms, and drum (spools) made from Australian silky oak wood or moulded from bakelite.

Pressed gunmetal back diameter 4 1/4''; pressed gunmetal backed bakelite drum width 2 5/8 ''; lever style optional check; gunmetal turntable base bracket; gunmetal removable forked line guide; saddle gunmetal; plunger-operated turntable action; gun metal collets; bakelite knobs; spring tension spool adjusting knurled nut. All metal components are nickel plated. Stamped GES on the back plate and moulded in bakelite drum center -c.1950.

GUNMETAL composition: This is a copper-tin alloy, similar to bronze, used where corrosion resistance is required, especially by seawater. It is easily cast and machines well. Composition: 88% copper, 8% tin, 4% zinc.
